What are outdoor shading systems?
Outdoor shading systems let you adjust a terrace to the sun and the weather. Pergola Inc. makes two series. Toscana is a pergola awning with a PVC fabric roof that you open and close by hand. i-Zip Screen, however, is a motorised zip screen whose fabric edges run in side rails. So one shades from above, while the other blocks sun, wind and insects from the side.
01How it works

Outdoor shading systems work in two directions. The midday sun comes from above, so it calls for a fabric roof. However, morning and evening sun arrives low, and wind and views come from the side too. That is why the family has two series. The orientation and use of your terrace then decide which one you need.
On Toscana, an aluminium and stainless steel frame carries a PVC fabric roof with a wave-pleated look. You open and close the fabric by hand, so you can change the shade whenever you like. In addition, the fabric is waterproof, flame-retardant and durable. This simple design suits gardens, terraces and seaside decks in particular.
i-Zip Screen, on the other hand, works vertically. The motor box stays hidden, and the screen goes up and down by remote control. Because a zip holds the fabric edges in the side rails, the screen stays taut. As a result, it protects against sun, wind, rain and insects.

Midday sun
Toscana's fabric roof blocks the overhead sun, so a shaded seating area forms underneath. When the sun goes down, you retract the fabric by hand and sit under an open sky.
Low sun
Morning and evening sun comes in from the side, so you lower the i-Zip Screen and cut the glare.
Windy evenings
The fabric edges of the zip screen run in side rails, which means the screen stays taut. However, our technical team assesses the conditions of use for each project location.
Insects and privacy
Once lowered, the zip screen protects against insects. It also closes the terrace to views from the street and the neighbours.
Easy to operate
You open and close Toscana by hand, but i-Zip Screen runs by remote control. The motor box also stays hidden, so the look stays clean.
Fabric and colour
Toscana comes in fabric colours such as cream, grey and beige, and i-Zip Screen also offers fabric colour options. This way the shade matches the façade and the furniture.

In Türkiye our own team installs and commissions the system. Abroad, an authorised dealer or the project's installation team takes over. They work with an installation manual, drawings and remote technical support.

At home, outdoor shading systems cover gardens, terraces and balconies. Toscana shades a garden seating area or a seaside deck with a simple fabric roof. i-Zip Screen, meanwhile, cuts low sun and views on verandas, balconies and windows.
In business, the needs are slightly different. For example, on café and restaurant terraces i-Zip Screen protects tables from wind and side sun. It also gives sun control in front of windows on façades. If you already have a louvred pergola, zip screens between the posts close the terrace on all sides.

Questions about outdoor shading.
Zip screen or pergola awning: which do I need?
It depends on where the sun comes from. If the midday sun comes from above, Toscana's fabric roof gives you shade. But if sun, wind or views come from the side, an i-Zip Screen zip screen is the right answer. Also, if you have a louvred pergola, zip screens close the gaps between its posts. At the survey we then choose the right outdoor shading system together.
Are zip screens wind resistant?
On i-Zip Screen a zip holds the fabric edges in the side rails. Therefore the screen stays taut in the wind. However, the conditions in which the screen can stay down depend on the size and the installation site. Our technical team calculates these values for your project and confirms them in writing, so you know the limits from the start.
Does a pergola awning keep the rain out?
Toscana's PVC fabric is waterproof and flame-retardant. So with the fabric roof closed, it keeps rain off the seating area underneath. However, where the water runs off depends on the ground and the installation site, which is why the survey also checks the ground and drainage. Against rain from the side, i-Zip Screen gives protection.
Can I add zip screens to an existing pergola?
i-Zip Screen suits pergola sides, verandas, windows, balconies and façades. On Sky Series bioclimatic pergolas, zip screens fit between the posts; SkyMax, for example, can close on every side. For any other structure, our technical team first checks suitability at a survey or from drawings before we make an offer.
What do outdoor shading systems cost?
The price of outdoor shading systems depends on the series, size, fabric colour, number of screens and installation site. Do I need a permit for an awning or zip screen?
That depends on local planning rules, the building's management rules and whether the system fixes to a façade.
