Which pergola suits a poolside terrace?
For a pool deck in daily use, we usually recommend a louvred bioclimatic pergola. SkyLounge louvres rotate to give shade and airflow, and when closed they form a roof against rain. If you prefer a fabric roof on a villa terrace, choose Elegant; for a manually operated awning, Toscana. i-Zip Screen zip screens can also close the sides against wind and for privacy.
01What the pool deck needs
Sun, water and wind in one place.
A pool deck usually takes the sun all day. At noon the loungers heat up and the water reflects the light. In the late afternoon, however, the air cools and the wind tugs at towels and cushions. That is why we plan a poolside pergola around the whole day, not a single moment.
The first question is how flexible the shade needs to be. A louvred roof changes its angle with the sun, and when closed it protects against rain. A retractable fabric roof, by contrast, folds back along its rails and opens up the sky. When you add zip screens between the posts, the deck also gains shelter from wind and a sense of privacy.
Around a pool, the ground, the drainage point and the power supply matter too. So during the survey we fix the post positions, where rainwater drains and the cable route for LED lighting and heaters. The profiles are aluminium with stainless steel fittings, and every surface gets an electrostatic powder coating.

Both work by a pool; the difference is how you use the space. A louvred bioclimatic pergola turns its louvres with the sun. When closed it forms a roof against rain, and when open it lets air through. A retractable fabric roof, however, folds back along its rails to open the sky. So we decide together at the survey, based on size, wind direction and the hours you spend outside.
Does a poolside pergola keep the rain out?
With louvred systems, closed louvres form a sheltered roof against rain. Water collects in channels along the louvres and then drains through the posts, and SkyLounge also has integrated rainwater downpipes. Around a pool, where that water goes matters. So we set the drainage point at the survey, together with the ground and the drain. With correct installation and regular care, the seating stays dry.
How do I keep wind out and add privacy by the pool?
Add i-Zip Screen zip screens between the posts of your poolside pergola. Their fabric edges run in side rails with a zip, so the screen stays taut. The screens protect against sun, wind, rain and insects, and they also block the view from outside. The motor box stays hidden and a remote control lowers the screen. You can also choose from several fabric colours.
Can I use a poolside pergola on cool evenings?
Yes. LED lighting and heater options extend the evening. On SkyLounge, the sides close for shade in summer and with glass panels in winter. The louvred series also take zip screens and sliding glass panels, while Elegant can have glass on its lower sides. We plan the power supply and cable route at the survey, so the deck stays in use after sunset.
How much does a poolside pergola cost?
