When we recommend pergolas for homes and businesses, we start with how you use the space. A backyard patio fills up mostly in the evenings and on weekends. Louvered or retractable pergola?
In a louvered pergola, motorized aluminum louvers rotate. When they close they form a roof that protects from rain; when they open they give shade and airflow. In a retractable pergola, a technical fabric roof folds back along rails and opens the sky. Can I use a pergola in winter?
Yes. When you close the louvers of a louvered system, the roof protects from rain and snow. Zip screens or glass panels between the posts also keep the wind out, while heaters and LED lighting extend the evening. We design the systems for rain, wind and snow conditions, and our technical team calculates the values for your project's size and location.
Do I need a permit for a pergola?
Permit rules depend on your city or county, your HOA and whether the pergola is freestanding or attached to the house.
